Founded 1960

And part of Volcafe's 170+ year history.

Since 2013 we have shifted our purchase strategy, reducing middlemen and purchasing directly from individual coffee producers. This has allowed us to provide our clients good quality and traceable coffee while at the same time providing coffee producers with fairer prices in comparison to middlemen prices. Ninety percent of our coffee is bought directly from producers and producer organisations.

Our strategic alliances with NGOs like TechnoServe and Swiss Contact have been a key component in our work to improve coffee producers’ livelihoods through fairer prices. Our technician staff are on the ground in all the strategic coffee regions providing producers with technical assistance, trainings on all sustainability objectives, coffee collection, finance recovery, certifications and also teaching our Volcafe Way method.

We have eight agencies strategically located throughout the country. Our main agency is located in San Pedro Sula, strategically close to Puerto Cortes and our agency in Comayagua is a Specialty Center that handles certified coffee and microlots.

Molinos has established excellent supply chains across the country that have allowed us to become one of the strongest suppliers of certified coffees in Honduras, delivering great quality consistently. We have cuppings every day, and we cup every cup at every stage of the processing: when we buy, when we store, when we process and before we export the coffees. Each coffee is cupped at least 6-7 times before export.

From certified coffees to microlots, regional blends and community lots, Molinos can deliver quality and can provide full traceability at all stages of the process. These are just some of the ways we demonstrate transparency and show our dedication to helping the producers have a better quality of life.

Coffee flavour profile

  • Our coffee is characterised as being well balanced and having notes of chocolate.
  • Copan Region coffees predominate with a heavier and creamy body with fruity sweetness.
  • El Paraiso and Comayagua have a more citric acidity with a more balanced body.
  • We source, process, export, and sell Arabica coffee
  • We provide technical assistance to coffee growers
  • We run a coffee quality lab
  • We handle transport logistics
